La biorremediación usando microorganismos fue creada por el científico norteamericano George Robinson, que trabajó como ingeniero de la compañía Santa María de California en la década de 1960 y que se dedicó a experimentar con una serie de microbios en frascos contaminados de petróleo.

Desde aquel entonces la técnica ha evolucionado mucho y hoy es más habitual su utilización para la recuperación de suelos contaminados por las industrias extractivas. En 1985 nace Amerex Argentina, alternando su actividad entre nuestro país y San Pablo, Brasil. En 2013 se establece definitivamente en su planta de Chacarita, provincia de Buenos Aires.

“En el pasado, la actividad petrolera, como otras actividades industriales, priorizaban la productividad por sobre cualquier otro aspecto del proceso, sin preocupare demasiado por el posible daño ambiental”, comenta Alejandro Roig, responsable del área Comunicación de la empresa.

Sostiene que la biorremediación es una forma amigable con el medio ambiente de combatir la contaminación, “capaz de devolver las características naturales a áreas que de otra forma serían condenadas al descarte”.

Desde la firma destacan el estudio de cada caso en particular para conseguir mejores resultados en el suelo a tratar. Explican que cada terreno tiene sus particularidades por lo que su conocimiento mejora los tiempos de recuperación.
